Our education

Welcome at the wesbite of the 3e Dalton. We are public school. This means that everyone is welcome in our school regardless off their beliefs and/or religion. We find it important to teach children to have respect for anothers beliefs and/or religion.

Dalton education

We educate the children according to the five principles of Dalton

In our schoolplan and schoolguide we give further insides about how our education is organized, what our vision is and how we fit that in our way of teaching. Furthermore we show how we aducate ourselves. Hereby is our most important point that we are a Dalton school. This means that our school distinguishes itself by paying a lot of attention to:

  • Cooperation
  • Freedom and responsability
  • Effectiveness
  • Self-reliance
  • Reflection

We think that the development of these skills are essential to live and work in the 21st century. We want these principles to be visible, noticeable, audible and sensible in our school, everything confirm the ideas of Helen Parkhurst:

“Dalton is no method, no system. It’s a way of life.”

In addition to the Dalton principles, we make it a priority to motivate an inquisitive attitude in students. This mission of our school is:

Focus on learning: to examine - to discover - to design

We offer meaingfull education to ensure our students make a good start as young adn responsible citizens in a constantly changing society.

  • To examine means to us that students learn how to unravel problems, questions, objects and phenomena, to explore, to analyse and to think further: investigation through observe well, ask questions, experiment, make predictions, endure frustration, to articulate and explore this.
  • To discover means our students experience the Eureka-effect, by letting them find solutions and determine if something is the solution for a problem. We let them come up with alternatives when something they imagined isn't the solution. With examining we teach our students to be curious, with discovering we want them to be amazed.
  • With designing we want our students to design an object or to design their learning route.

To examine, to discover and to design is a method with which we aim for different goals. As common thread through this students will be activated to be ciritcal and are challenged to ask questions about things they want to know.

KiVa-school

We are a KiVa-school! Together against bullying.

What is KiVa

KiVa is a succesfull Finnish anti-bullying program. It's effective in preventing and solving bullying. KiVa means nice and it stands also for:

"Together we make it a great school!"

KiVa is one of the schoolwide programs which is approved by the NJi to prevent bullying.

Group process

KiVa is a preventive schoolwide program that focusses on reinforcing the social safety and preventing and stopping bullying. A important starting point from KiVa is that bullyinh is seen as a groep phenomenon. To influence the group as a whole is essential to stop bullying effectively. All students are involved in this process. During 10 themes they learn about the different group roles and they think of solutions with the group. Topics that, among others, are discussed are: respect, communication and the different roles in de group.  In every theme there is one rule which receives special attention:

  1. We are nice to each other and treat each other with respect.
  2. Together we make a great group.
  3. We talk with each other (and use hereby the I-language).
  4. We want bullying to stop!
  5. We get along with each other.
  6. We help each other.
  7. We stand up for each other.

The students fill in a questionaire twice a year about the wellbeing and there social relations within the group. Teacher get a report so they can have an even better ideas what the students need to enjoy their time at school.

Since the schoolyear 2020 the 3e Dalton is an officially ceritified KiVa-school. We are very proud to have received this certification.
